Description

Great quality Shimano 105 HG UG hub set with cassette from the period Shimano were going from the UniGlide cassette set up over to HyperGlide. Both hubs are the 1050 series but the rear hub has had the six speed UG freehub body swapped for a 7 speed HG or UG version. This 7 speed HG/UG freehub came a couple of years later than the 6 speed UG cassettes, but it makes it a lot more practical at least! The pair of 36 hole hubs come with original skewers and instructions and a NOS 7 speed Shimano HG70 cassette (which definitely fits the freehub). The 13:21 tooth HG70 cassette alone is a hard to find item.

Shimano hubs of this period are notoriously bomb-proof, or over-engineered depending on your viewpoint, they are fully rebuildable and well sealed, obviously the freehub bodies are also interchangeable so they will provide years of service.

The full set is NOS, unused, but rather oddly the rear hub looks to have two spoke holes that have been laced on the non-drive side, no other spoke holes show any signs of being built up. I suspect this is where someone has swapped the freehub over back in the day. The box shows this hub set originally had a 6 speed UG cassette in it of the same ratios.
