Description

These Milax (we’ll come to that) Suntour top mount aero shifters are the LD-2300 model which give the benefits of the top mounted aero position without having to have a frame specifically designed for it. Combining the words ‘Micro’ for compact, ‘Lite’ for light weight and ‘Aerodynamic’ cos, well, they were aero into the snappy and not-so-common-parlance ‘Milax’ these shifters were another example of Suntour being ahead of everyone else in terms of technology. The downside to the other version of this shifter (LD-2350) and other aero shifters from those other brands was that your frame had to be designed for them, not so these ones as they come with the band on clamp Suntour was so fond of during this period.

Introduced in 1981 they were I think part of the Cyclone groupset, second only to Superbe at the time, I think these ones are the 1982 model as they have the ‘Symmetric’ self adjust front derailleur trim doo-dah and the levers with holes in. There is a great catalogue scan with the info in here.

Basically, what these are is loads of technology wrapped up in one lightweight, neat, aerodynamic and easier to use than normal DT shifters package and it really should have taken over, but that’s just the way with Suntour’s products.
