Description
As found in the 1987 Specialized parts and accessories catalogue the Specialized MTB-4 stem was a cheaper alternative to the top end MTB-3, although still made by the incomparable Nitto in Japan. With the same overall design, logo and integrated hanger, and a similar weight, it was specced on the HardRock and RockHopper in the ’86-’88 period. The 26.0 mm bar clamp was common at the time as it allowed the use of either a flat bar (you may need a shim) or a dirt drop, the scalloped design means it is possible to fit a wide variety of curvy bars.
This grey version doesn’t appear anywhere in catalogues that I can find, I suspect it was originally black and someone has stripped it and repainted it grey, it’s a good job though 🙂
Like all of our stuff this is new old stock, though it has a few storage marks and looks to have had a bar fitted at some point.
